Texas Missions & Presidios
"There's a map, how is it a scavenger hunt?"
you ask. The answer is quite simply, missions went through phases; failing, moving, being renamed.
Some locations are accurate, while others are approximate, and still others may just be wrong. There may be restored buildings, ruins, or just a historic marker. There may be markers at original sites that are not on the map. The key is research. Figure out what may be in the area then find out what is there. |

Nuestra Señora de Loreto de la Bahia Presidio Nuestra Señora de Loreto (also known as La Bahía Presidio) patrolled the coast against invaders and rescued shipwreck victims. 1721. Presidio del Norte San Agustin de Ahumada Presidio San Agustín curbed French trading activities along the coast. 1756 San Antonio de Béxar Presidio San Elizario Presidio San Juan Bautista (Mexico) San Juan Bautista, growing into a complex of three missions, a presidio, and a civilian settlement, served as a way station and gateway for expeditions to the Texas interior from 1700 until the Mexican War. |
