To this end I share the project our chapter put together for anyone to use and adapt to their needs. It can be done alone, or with a group of friends (men included), or an organization you belong to.
The WITW regional or national criteria can be changed to anything similar ... Maybe a SOAR Meet & Greet and the LGG Rally ... Or maybe a local HOG ride or poker run.
We discovered battery installation and maintenance was more pertinent than changing spark plugs. Maybe you have a water cooled bike and that needs to be part of your accomplishment.
Planning a ride is more than picking roads on a map, especially in the west. What is the worst range on your gas tank? Mapquest makes it easy to plan your fuel stops. Better to top off at half a tank than find yourself on "reserve" 30 miles from the nearest station!
Start with the easy stuff - the kits: tools, first aid, survival, maps. What you need will be somewhat unique to you and your machine. Just figuring out the "what" is part of the learning process. Sometimes just having the tools lets somebody help you get going again!
Look on our Projects page for "The Confident Motorcyclist Project" for a .pdf to print out. Email us if you have questions and maybe I can help with some pointers ... Or at least "Road Stories". Have fun with it. The more you do, the more you will feel "I got this!"
Have a Great Summer! Ride On & Smile!
